Behavioral health care workers at Kaiser Permanente in Southern California have been on strike for more than 110 days. Kaiser is the largest HMO in the country, yet workers say persistent understaffing has left them with excessive caseloads and forced patients to wait more than four weeks for appointments. They also want to achieve parity with their colleagues in Northern California, who won reduced workloads and wait times in a ten-week 2022 strike.
Employer: Kaiser Permanente
Union: National Union of Healthcare Workers
Strike length: Ongoing
Number of workers: 2,400
