David Sacks, Cofounder and partner at Craft Ventures

  • Why the switch? Prefers Trump on the economy, immigration, and the war in Ukraine

  • Tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sacks, who in 2016 donated $70,000 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, has been working overtime for Donald Trump in 2024, recently cohosting with Chamath Palihapitiya a $300,000-per-head fundraising dinner for the former president that raised over $12 million. Other donations this cycle went to Florida governor Ron DeSantis ($50,000), the libertarian Purple Good Government PAC ($375,000), the campaign to recall California governor Gavin Newsom ($180,000), and the Protect Ohio Values PAC ($1 million), sued by watchdog groups in 2022 for providing illegal in-kind contributions to vice-presidential hopeful J. D. Vance’s latest senatorial run.

Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Cofounders of Andreessen Horowitz

  • Why the switch? Biden’s economy not facilitating innovation in crypto and AI

  • After endorsing and voting for Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton — with Andreessen even at one point tweeting, “I’m with her” — the billionaire venture capitalists announced this summer that they would be supporting Trump’s 2024 candidacy. Their chosen PACs have yet to be disclosed, but other 2024 donations include $51,975 to the National Republican Congressional Committee and $41,808 to the Republican National Committee.

Bill Ackman, Founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management

  • Why the switch? Possible personal beef with Biden

  • The Barack Obama ally turned on the president he helped install, throwing his weight behind Trump for the 2024 election. It is the latest in Ackman’s nasty breakup with Joe Biden, which began, allegedly, with Biden slapping Ackman for talking about his deceased son, Beau.
