Hobbies: Football and Fascism
Football ultras don’t just cheer for right-wingers on the pitch.

Atlético de Madrid
Madrid, Spain
Atlético lives up to its reputation as one of dictator Francisco Franco’s favorite clubs, with ultras who throw fascist salutes at supporters of Basque and Catalan teams. In 2023, Atlético ultras launched a racist attack on an eight-year-old fan of Vinícius Júnior, a black Real Madrid forward.
SS Lazio
Rome, Italy
Lazio’s Mussolini-loving Irriducibili ultras disbanded in 2020 after the murder of their longtime leader, Diabolik. But Lazio’s most ardent fans have maintained their incendiary politics, hurling racist chants at black players and calling Celtics FC fans “Fenian bastards” and “potato eaters.”
Beitar Jerusalem
Jerusalem, Israel/Palestine
Beitar’s hard-right ultras group doesn’t just target football fans. Its members have ransacked a hospital where they thought a Hamas fighter was being treated, roughed up demonstrators at protests, and torched their own team’s trophy room because it signed two Muslim players.
