The Democratic primary has officially begun, and unfortunately for Pelosi and Schumer, socialism is in the air.

Poll after poll shows wide support for our core program of Medicare for All, union jobs, and free education. And despite a media aligned against him, Bernie Sanders is still running strong on that exact message.

Take a look at where American politics were just ten years ago, and it’s hard to believe we’ve arrived at this moment — but just as hard to believe that it’ll stick around for good. Right now, everything we do matters in a way it never has before. Because this moment may not happen ever again in our lifetimes.

We don’t wanna be telling our grandkids about “the good ol’ days” when we started a fight with the ruling class — but never managed to win it.

Jacobin’s seen enormous growth in the past year, with 15,000 new subscribers and 1.5 million visitors every month. We can’t afford another 2016, and it looks like more and more of you agree. Because while Americans are showing a surprising interest in democratic socialism, there aren’t that many institutions out there trying to help build on that dream.

The mainstream media will instead try to sell us on the same broken politics that brought us Trump in the first place: “realistic” proposals for health care and unemployment that not only can’t solve our problems but, as we saw with Clinton, can’t even win on election day. We can’t let that happen again — it’d be a boon to the worst, most reactionary forces around the globe, and the most vulnerable will be the ones to pay the price.

But more than just winning elections, we need to build institutions that last for not only years, but lifetimes. With your help, we can keep building our project, making sure that we don’t have another long period of retreat for the democratic socialist movement — a retreat that helped bring a second Gilded Age.
