“What would Don King do?” Something I ask myself every time I need to promote Jacobin writers. It’s done wonders. But which of them will return the favor?

Not a goddamn one, apparently.

I’ve waited a month for someone to post my appearance on “Up with Chris Hayes,” but since it’s my birthday, I’ll indulge myself.*

Also, here‘s Jacobin contributing editor Sarah Leonard chatting with Mike Konczal about precarious labor and the intersections of class and gender in the new economy.

And of course, Jacobin as a whole has been all over the press lately. We got a nice mention in Rolling Stone, Colin’s essay “Against Chairs” was reprinted in the Boston Globe, and we have even more exciting things we’re waiting to announce.

More unmentioned news: Jacobin editor Megan Erickson and managing editor Connor Kilpatrick got married a couple weeks ago. Somehow Megan chose Connor even after spending time interviewing Lacanian supermodel Slavoj Žižek for Big Think.

Also, Jacobin contributor Yanis Varoufakis just got hired by Valve — capitalist bastards for sure, but bound to increase our street cred in the 18–24 basement dwelling demographic.

And yes, things have been quiet around here, because we’re completely revamping our website under the direction of designer Remeike Forbes. Beyond aesthetics, expect a transformation of content, including new bloggers like Richard Seymour and Corey Robin. On the administrative side, we’ve completely upended our distribution mechanisms, since the influx of demand after last issue caught us unprepared. With the mailing this week we’re basically caught up and ready to continue on our climb to 3,000 subscribers by Bastille Day 2013.

Here’s one last thing: we’ve been in operation since September 2010 and we’ve only had one donation drive. We’ve only asked for and raised $2,000 and we operate a print magazine with yearly expenses in the tens of thousands. Jacobin is run with spartan efficiency and has expanded, while staying true to our radical critique. A small donation would mean the world to us. Come on, it’s my birthday.
