The European Left: An Interview with Leo Panitch
In this interview, the fate of European social democracy, among other topics, are discussed.
Leo Panitch is a professor at York University, an editor at the criminally underrated Socialist Register and the co-author most recently of The Making of Global Capitalism. The Socialist Register was founded by Ralph Miliband and John Saville in 1964 to give theoretical voice to the emerging New Left. It yielded a host of classics, like Rudolf Meidner’s examination of the Swedish model’s failure and Miliband’s early work on the nature of the state.
This interview first appeared in New Politics and was conducted by Adaner Usmani, a member of its editorial board. Similarly started as an independent socialist magazine in the early 1960s, New Politics has classics to its name, as well, such as Hal Draper’s “Two Souls of Socialism.”
